BROADOAKS COUNTRY HOUSE, WINDERMERE
- Szilvi & James.
by Alistair Mac Photography.
A sunny, autumnal black dress wedding, at Broadoaks Country House, Windermere.
As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of capturing lots of beautiful wedding, but Szilvi and James’ autumn wedding at Broadoaks Country House in Windermere was really something special, and a little bit different. Set against the backdrop of Lake Windermere and the surrounding fells, their celebration was a interesting blend of individuality and a touch of Halloween magic. The whole day was bright and sunny, which for an October wedding in the Lakes, was a blessing! Broadoaks, with its classic country house charm and stunning views over the lake, provided the perfect setting for this intimate celebration.
I arrived as Szilvi's bridal prep in one of the cute onsite lodges, where her party were keen to help her step into her unique black wedding dress. It was such a refreshing contrast to the ever-popular white gowns, and it set the tone for the rest of the day. I captured both bridal and groom prep, as both were getting married onsite, but in separate locations. James had a quiet morning with his best man, whilst Szilvi had a room full of family and friends, as well as the hair and make up team - it felt chaotic, slightly, but everyone was excited, and nobody spilt orange juice over a bridesmaid's dress! (honest!)
Halloween Touches.
As I moved around the venue to capture scene-setting images, I noticed how Szilvi and James had thoughtfully woven in some subtle Halloween elements - Pumpkins dotted the orangery ceremony room and added a colouful touch of autumn. Even an ornate skull, strategically placed in the bridal bouquet, added gothic charm - definitely something different for me to get stuck into with my cameras!
Biscoff Wedding Cake!?
The Biscoff wedding cake was one of the highlights for me as a photographer. Not only was it an absolute banger, but the skeletons that decorated it was a brilliant nod to the Halloween theme. It was a perfect balance of spooky and chic, and the guests couldn’t stop admiring it.
What struck me most about Szilvi and James’ wedding was how personal and unique it was. They embraced their individuality, creating a day that felt entirely true to who they are. Every little detail was thoughtfully planned. The love between Szilvi and James was so obvious, and I had the privilege during their portraits of capturing those moments that tell the story of their relationship and shared interests..
This wedding was the perfect combination of family bonding, individuality, and nature. Broadoaks Country House in Windermere offered an unforgettable backdrop, and Szilvi and James made sure every detail of their day was infused with meaning and personality. As a photographer, I’m always grateful for the chance to capture moments like these — moments that feel timeless and yet entirely unique to the couple.
It was a true pleasure to document their autumn wedding, and I’ll forever cherish the memories of this beautiful day in the heart of the Lake District.
