A guide to getting the best out of your Engagement Shoot.

Engagement photography, a.k.a. pre-wedding photography isn’t just about turning up on the day to get some nice photos. It’s about getting to know your photographer and most importantly them getting to know you! At the end of the day, it's your photographer's job to tell the story of the love you have for each other through the images they take, so it's definitely worthwhile spending an hour or two with your photographer on an engagement shoot.

On your engagement shoot, once we've got to know each other a little, I'll start off by taking photos of you from a distance (I'll usually ask you to just ignore me and enjoy just being youselves for a little while) and as you get more confortable, offer suggestions, allowing you to see and feel what works best for you - so that on your wedding day, you won't even need to think about how you stand or hold each other - you'll simply do what feels natural and it'll look great every time!

The best thing is, your engagement shoot is included in the price when you book me for the full day package!

WHAT'S GOOD TO WEAR ON AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT? (AND WHAT NOT TO WEAR.)

As always, this is entirely dependent on the good old British weather! Unfortunately, as we all know, even in the height of summer, it can be wet and windy, particularly in the North of England, so I'd always suggest dressing for the occasion, but in a way that allows you to be comfortable and happy. Here are some ideas to get your inspiration flowing:

For Her:

- A white dress always looks great, or a long floaty top.

- Neutral outfits look great for shoots in natural locations. - greens, creams, browns, pale blues, mustardy-oranges etc.

- Matching outfits is always a winner. Similar colours that complement each other.

Comfortable footwear. - if we've planned an engagement shoot up a mountain, make sure to bring appropriate boots!

For Him:

- Smart casual - a loose fitting shirt over a T-shirt and maybe a jacket or blazer on top if it's chilly.

- Again, pale and neutral colours for shoots in the outdoors.

- For city centre shoots, feel free to smarten up a little - think 'dinner date'.

Please keep in mind if these options don’t work for you, I’m always willing to help you figure out something that will. At the end of the day, the more relaxed and comfortable you are, the better you look and feel in the photos.

Don't forget the accessories!

Hats, over-coats, flashy footwear - you do you, but feel free to go big!

Other ideas:

- Dress for the Location - The outfit you choose should to suit the location you choose. - You don’t want to be all glammed up in a white dress if your photoshoot is taking place at the top of a mountain - in the rain, do you? - (or do you!?)

- City centre location? - why not smarten up a tad, with a nice dress, smart shirt and posh shoes.
